Call for CESR Assessors
Dear Colleague As you know there are 2 ways to achieve specialist recognition, either a CCT following training in an approved UK centre or via the CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route. CESR applications each require 2 Assessors and it is clearly preferable if they are Consultants in specialty under consideration. SAC members have always taken on this work but recently there has been an increase in the number of CESR applications and more Assessors are required. Anyone who has served on the SAC or is familiar with the current curriculum would be eligible and the training GMC provide easy to access training. Although there is no remuneration, this activity would count towards CPD, Appraisal and potentially CEA applications. The default position is that unless we as a Specialty can fulfil this role then the GMC may contract the work out to Assessors who are not Paediatric or ACHD Cardiologists and we will have less influence on those achieving specialist recognition. If you are interested in this very worthwhile work please contact Dr Frances Bu’Lock at bcca@bcs.com. Yours sincerely Dr Alan Magee President, British Congenital Cardiac Association
